O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a produtividade e o valor nutricional da T. diversifolia (Asteraceae), colhida em dois estádios de maturação (emborrachamento e pré-floração) e seu potencial como fonte de biomassa para produção de ruminantes no Brasil. As coletas de T. diversifolia foram realizadas em 8 locais, 4 repetições por local e em 2 estádios de maturação, sendo avaliadas a produção de matéria verde (PMV) e matéria seca (PMS), relação folha:caule (RF:C), teores de MS, matéria mineral (MM), proteína (PB), proteína insolúvel em detergente neutro (PIDN) e ácido (PIDA), fibra em detergente neutro (FDN) e ácido (FDA), hemicelulose (HEM), celulose (CEL), extrato etéreo (EE), carboidratos não fibrosos (CNF), carboidratos totais (CHT), lignina (LIG) e nutrientes digestíveis totais (NDT). As produções médias foram maiores (P < 0,05) no estádio do emborrachamento, PMV (41,3 t/ha) e PMS (8,1 t/ha), em relação à pré-floração, PMV (24,7 t/ha) e PMS (5,6 t/ha). Também para a variável RF:C, encontrou-se maior participação das folhas no estádio do emborrachamento em comparação à pré-floração, 1,51 e 1,27 g/kg de MS respectivamente. Tal fato pode justificar as maiores produções de PMV. Acrescenta-se, ainda, que o estádio de pré-floração proporcionou aumento nos teores de MS (220 para 224 g/kg de MS), PIDN (86 para 98 g/kg de MS), PIDA (40 para 68 g/kg de MS), FDN (476 para 520 g/kg de MS), FDA (333 para 364 g/kg de MS), CHT (706 para 743 g/kg de MS), LIG (134 para 177) e redução nas concentrações de PB (165 para 149 g/kg de MS), NDT (63,8 para 61,3), MM (113 para 93 g/kg de MS) e de CEL (268 para 187 g/kg de MS) respectivamente para emborrachamento e pre-floração. Desta forma, com o envelhecimento da forrageira, houve uma redução do valor nutricional e produtivo da planta. Contudo, as variáveis produtivas associadas à composição química da T. diversifolia potencializam essa espécie como fonte de biomassa para nutrição de ruminantes no Brasil, principalmente quando colhida no emborrachamento. Musa species (Zingiberaceae, Zingiberales) including bananas and plantains are collectively the fourth most important crop in developing countries. Knowledge concerning Musa genome structure and the origin of distinct cultivars has greatly increased over the last few years. Until now, however, no large-scale analyses of Musa genomic sequence have been conducted. This study compares genomic sequence in two Musa species with orthologous regions in the rice genome.We produced 1.4 Mb of Musa sequence from 13 BAC clones, annotated and analyzed them along with 4 previously sequenced BACs. The 443 predicted genes revealed that Zingiberales genes share GC content and distribution characteristics with eudicot and Poaceae genomes. Comparison with rice revealed microsynteny regions that have persisted since the divergence of the Commelinid orders Poales and Zingiberales at least 117 Mya. The previously hypothesized large-scale duplication event in the common ancestor of major cereal lineages within the Poaceae was verified. The divergence time distributions for Musa-Zingiber (Zingiberaceae, Zingiberales) orthologs and paralogs provide strong evidence for a large-scale duplication event in the Musa lineage after its divergence from the Zingiberaceae approximately 61 Mya. Comparisons of genomic regions from M. acuminata and M. balbisiana revealed highly conserved genome structure, and indicated that these genomes diverged circa 4.6 Mya. These results point to the utility of comparative analyses between distantly-related monocot species such as rice and Musa for improving our understanding of monocot genome evolution. Sequencing the genome of M. acuminata would provide a strong foundation for comparative genomics in the monocots. In addition a genome sequence would aid genomic and genetic analyses of cultivated Musa polyploid genotypes in research aimed at localizing and cloning genes controlling important agronomic traits for breeding purposes.
